Scope
Development of Inertial Navigation System (INS) that ensures precise navigation and positioning, both in of GPS-enabled and in GPS-denied environments
Core Components
- Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) with gyroscopes and accelerometers
- GNSS receiver for absolute position data from satellites
- Optional magnetometers for measuring magnetic fields in three dimensions
Key Functionality
- Integrates sensor outputs with advanced data processing techniques, including Kalman filtering
- References a known starting position to calculate real-time position and motion vectors
- Provides continuous navigation data for vehicles and machines operating in three-dimensional space (e.g., cars, submarines, airplanes)
- Error permissible โ 0.3% - 0.7% of distance covered
