Project Scope
The objective of this project was to design, develop, and deliver Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) for the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS). The project followed the S1000D international specification with JSG 852 Indian defense standards to ensure that the publications are XML based data modular approach, structured, and data-driven—enabling efficient operation, streamlined maintenance, and robust lifecycle support of the artillery system.
The scope of work included:
- Analyzing and validating customer-supplied engineering
- Authoring XML-based content structured in compliance with S1000D
- Creating 2D and 3D animation illustrations using STEP file conversions
- Delivering the publications via an IETM Viewer for seamless user interaction
Project Deliverables
- Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs)
- Fully interactive, platform-agnostic manuals
- Designed for integration with defense maintenance systems and tools
- Quick navigation, cross-referencing, and modular updates
- Illustrated Parts Data (IPD)
- Structured metadata including part numbers, part names & Description and Manufacturer information
- Enriched with 2D illustrations generated from CAD models
- Troubleshooting Manual (TSM)
- Fault isolation trees and logical troubleshooting paths
- Embedded references to tools, test points, and corrective actions
- Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM)
- Detailed service and maintenance instructions
- Safety protocols, required equipment lists, and scheduling guidance
- Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs)
- Subsystem-specific maintenance procedures
- Granular technical detail for individual components and assemblies
All deliverables strictly adhered to the S1000D specification, ensuring future scalability, efficient updates, and seamless reuse across multiple programs or platforms.
Key Tools
- ISO Draw CAD Process – Used for transforming STEP files into clear and detailed isometric illustrations
- XML – For authoring modular, data-driven content in S1000D structure
- Adobe Acrobat – For reviewing, annotating, and packaging documentation where applicable
- IETM Viewer – For interactive access to the final IETPs, supporting search, navigation, and content filtering
- R4i Writer & R4i IPD Manager – For content creation and parts catalogue management
- R4i Common Source Database (CSDB) – For centralized data module storage, configuration control, and version management
